Privacy Policy

The City Wars ("we", "us", "our") is operated by TheCityWars.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information. By using the Service you agree to the practices described here.

This policy applies to all users of TheCityWars.com. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If we learn that a user is under 13, we will delete their account and associated data promptly. Parents or guardians who believe a child under 13 has registered should contact us at support@thecitywars.com.

Information We Collect

When you register or use The City Wars, we may collect the following:

• Account information — username, email address, and a hashed (encrypted) password.
• IP address — logged at registration and login for security and abuse-prevention purposes.
• Payment records — if you make a donation, we record the transaction amount, date, and a reference ID. We do not store your full credit card number; payment processing is handled by Stripe, a third-party processor, subject to their own privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.
• In-game activity — game actions, chat messages, and logs are recorded for security, fair-play enforcement, and game integrity. These logs are not shared publicly.
• Voluntarily submitted content — anything you post on message boards, in-game mail, or other public areas. You post this at your own discretion; other players may see it.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Operate and maintain your account and the game service.
• Enforce our Terms of Service and investigate rule violations or abuse.
• Send you account-related emails (password resets, important notices) and, where you have opted in, newsletters.
• Comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from government authorities.
• Protect the security and integrity of the Service.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.

Cookies

The City Wars uses cookies solely to manage your login session — to keep you authenticated while you play. These cookies contain a session identifier and no other personal data. Session cookies expire when you close your browser. If you use a "remember me" feature, a persistent cookie is stored on your device until you log out or it expires.

We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or analytics cookies.

Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account remains active. If you request account deletion (see below), we will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable time, except where we are required to retain it by law or for legitimate security purposes (such as ban records to prevent re-registration by bad actors).

In-game activity logs may be retained for up to 12 months for security and fair-play review purposes.

Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your information, including password hashing and access controls on our servers. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials.

Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, or delete the information we hold about you. Regardless of location, you may:

• Request account deletion — email us at support@thecitywars.com with the subject "Account Deletion Request" and we will delete your account and associated personal data (subject to the retention exceptions noted above).
• Update your email address or password — through your in-game account settings.
• Opt out of newsletters — by contacting us at support@thecitywars.com.

If you are a resident of California (CCPA) or the European Economic Area (GDPR), you have additional rights including the right to know what data we hold, to request portability, and to object to processing. Please contact us at support@thecitywars.com to exercise any of these rights.

Information Disclosure

We may disclose your information when legally required to do so, at the request of governmental authorities conducting a lawful investigation, or to enforce compliance with our Terms of Service and applicable laws. We do not disclose user information publicly.

Note that The City Wars takes no responsibility for personal information submitted voluntarily by players in public areas of the game (message boards, in-game chat, etc.). All members disclose such information at their own discretion.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and announce significant changes in the game's announcements. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
